Itinerary
Day 1: Ushuaia
Day 2: Ushuaia/Drake Passage
Opt to visit the magnificent Tierra del Fuego National Park today before boarding the ship.
Day 3-4: Drake Passage/South Shetland Islands
The G Expedition is at home in this part of the Southern Ocean, known for the unimpeded never ending fetch of the winds that encircle the Antarctic.
As the Expedition crosses the passage there will be time to become acquainted with the ship and frequent the common areas that include the lounge, dining hall, library and lecture hall where we meet our guides, ship's crew and expedition staff.
Begin lectures and information sessions to learn the extraordinary human and natural history of the Antarctic region.
Day 5-10: South Shetland Islands/Antarctic Peninsula
Navigate southwards making stops in the South Shetland Islands then through the Bransfield Strait and to the Antarctic Peninsula.
During the voyage, learn about some of the most important and dramatic expeditions to this remote corner of the world. Take an optional polar plunge, visit an abandoned whaling station or a working scientific research station, and gain a new perspective on this part of world.
Our goal is to attempt two excursions per day while we navigate through the area but our itinerary and daily schedule will be based on the local weather and ice conditions that we encounter.
Day 11-12: Drake Passage/Ushuaia
Leave Antarctica and head north across the Drake Passage. In between bird watching and whale watching and enjoying some final lectures by the expedition staff, this is a chance to relax and review the adventures of the past week before returning to Ushuaia.
Remember, the best way to experience the wildlife of the Drake Passage is to be on deck keeping a look out for Albatross, Prions and Whales!

The crew is incredibly caring and shares a wealth of knowledge about Antarctica and its unique biosphere. Everything is exceptionally well-organized, and I truly appreciate their hard work in making this an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this tour! With six days on the Antarctic Peninsula, you’ll have ample opportunities for kayaking and landings, weather permitting. I would absolutely love to do it again!

The Antarctica Classic in Depth expedition is the greatest travelling I've done in my life. The crew, leaders, and facilities were phenomenal, and travelling with a small group of like-minded people made the trip. We were fortunate with weather and conditions, but even more fortunate with the expertise of our expedition leader and captain, whose joint decision making maximized every minute of our trip. I felt safe, educated, entertained, cared for, and included in everything that happened. And well-fed too!

To see Antarctica was an unbelievable experience and being taken to experiences that weren’t planned and extra was really special. The crew were all mostly very nice and the service on board very good. The cabin was great and what I saw I will never forget. The military operation of the landings left a somewhat negative impression but I don’t know how you could do it differently. Maybe not so direct and aggressive. At times there was a mismatch between the crew and the passengers. I witnessed a passenger struggling to board a zodiac and the crew member not helping until told and responding with ‚well you should be fit‘ for such a trip. Really. The landings fitted the military aspect where a more hands on guided approach would be more informative. Also the party aspect of the ship doesn’t really match my idea of an Antarctica expedition but I guess that’s life. But I got more than I wanted out of the trip and you can’t say more than that. Thank you.
