Visit Dettifoss waterfall, one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe.
Reach Bakagerdi (Borgarfjörður) in the East Fjords region for a night in a local guesthouse.
Meals included: Breakfast
Exclusive inclusions: Transport - Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.Activity - Take an excursion to one of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland, the Goðafoss waterfall. Measuring 12m high and 30m wide, the waterfall is a must-see and a short drive from Akureyri. While Iceland is famous for its many spectacular waterfalls, Goðafoss is a favourite for visitors because it's easily accessible by car. There are also walking paths all around the falls making it easy to take fantastic photographs from different angles.Activity - Explore the beautiful scenery around Lake Mývatn. Formed during a volcanic eruption 2,300 yrs ago, the geothermal area is a haven for a massive number of birds. The nutrient rich water also attracts over ten species of migrating ducks to the area. Atlantic salmon and brown trout thrive in the river, feeding on the healthy midge fly population that swarm over the waters in the summer. Activity - Walk the marked pathways to spot arches and pillars or check out lava caves. Meaning 'dark forts' in Icelandic, Dimmuborgir is an area of lava fields with black lava formations on display in dramatic fashion. Activity - Stop at Námaskarð to see the bubbling mud pools and steaming fumaroles. There are some wooden pathways around the area but most visitors prefer to get up close to look at the pools, but be careful, the mud in this area is thick and sticky and the residue from the steam can stain clothing. Activity - Stop at the Detiifoss Waterfall in northeast Iceland, rumored to be the most powerful in Europe, with an average water flow of 193 m3/s. Take in the view of 45m high and 100m wide falls and take some photos to show off back home.Accommodation - Alfheimar Guesthouse
Day 4: Bakkagerdi/Hofn
Meals included: Breakfast
Exclusive inclusions: Transport - Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.Accommodation - Hotel Smyrlabjorg
Day 5: Hofn/Vik
Marvel at the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, with a chance to see seals sunbathing on the bright blue ice. The massive icebergs floating towards shore tower over visitors. Opt to check out the lagoon by boat. Stop by Diamond Beach, which gets its name from chunks of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier that float to shore. As these blocks of glacier ice melt, they develop a crystal clear sheen, set against the black sand of the beach.
Continue on to Skaftafell National Park with time to explore before continuing on in the evening to the small town of Vík.
Meals included: Breakfast
Exclusive inclusions: Transport - Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.Activity - Visit the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon with views of the ice cap. The lake is the lowest point in the country and filled with icebergs drifting towards the sea, often with seals lounging on top. The blocks of ice coming off the glacier are typically 30m high, in dramatic shades of white and bright blue. Stop by Diamond Beach, which gets its name from chunks of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier that float down to the coast's black sand shores. Total distance: 3km.Accommodation - Hotel Dyrholaey
Day 6: Vik/Reykjavik
Meals included: Breakfast
Exclusive inclusions: Transport - Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.Activity - Visit Reynisfjara Beach, just outside of Vík. Its black sand and ominous rock formations offshore make for stunning photos. Take some time to watch the foaming white waves crash over the black sand (but don’t get too close, the waves here can be extremely powerful), explore the shallow cave if weather and time permits, and get a photo of the basalt sea stacks. Activity - Seljalandsfoss is a 60m (196 ft) tall waterfall located along the popular ring road. Behind the flow of water is a path, allowing visitors to peek behind the curtain of water cascading over the rocks above.Activity - Discover one of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland, Gullfoss, and complete the circuit known as the Golden Circle. This massive waterfall cascades over three “steps” before spilling into a large crevice. Fed by a glacier lake, the water passing through the falls can be a dark grey depending on how much sediment gets pushed through the river.Activity - See a variety of geothermal pools and the erupting hot spring Strokkur. Geysir is one of the oldest geysers recorded in the world, but is most often dormant. Strokkur erupts a spray of boiling hot water straight into the air about every ten minutes.Activity - Stop at Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, to see the tectonic faults created by North American and Eurasian tectonic plates shifting apart. The Oxara river cuts through the largest rift in the valley, Almannagja, and leads to the Oxarafoss waterfall. Iceland’s parliament was also established in the area in 930. The park was later created to protect the remains of the open-air assembly grounds.Accommodation - Hotel Cabin
Day 7: Reykjavik
Exclusive inclusions: Free_time - Enjoy free time to further explore Reykjavik on your own. Maybe opt to float between the tectonic plates.Activity - Take a tour of the city, learning more about its history, architecture, people and culture.Activity - Enjoy a uniquely Icelandic experience, a warm geo thermal bath overlooking the water near the city.Accommodation - Hotel Cabin

Winter or summer, the Snæfellsnes peninsula is one of the most scenic destinations in Iceland. It's a long day, but well worth it.

I called, complained about my hotel room and it went unheard. No one contacted me after, no one helped me at the location, it was horrible.

Well organized trips allowing flexibility for additional activities

I can see why some people might like a heavily packed tour that involves a lot of sitting on a bus, but that much sitting and driving with very little down time wasn't my cup of tea. I also didn't love that our guide treated us like children.. Telling us when we could stand, that we had to wait on the bus when he stepped out vs letting us get up/out to stretch our legs and get fresh air.

I did not have a good experience.

I always enjoy travelling with like-minded people, and the CEO are always amazing and fun

It is nice to be on a guided tour if you don't want to plan your own trip. But it is easy to come around by yourself in a rented car.
10/01/2023
The trip was basically two shorter trips and the time could have been better managed, we did a lot of driving in and out of Reykjavik on the last two days.
10/01/2023
Generally trips cover a lot of what folks would like to see and prices are usually reasonable.
10/01/2023
The trip was fantastic but it wasn't as advertised on the website. This was advertised as a 9 day tour implying we have a guide everyday and instead it was a 5 day tour joining onto a 3 day tour and on the cross over day we didn't have a guide and there were no activities planned other than an optional activity. On other days when other optional activities were happening there was nothing planned for those who hadn't opted in to the activity. It an activity is optional it implies something else is happening while you are on that excursion.

The iceland trip was different to other G trips because of the use of subcontractors and different guides

The tour was just what I wanted it to be and it was really fun and adventurous and Krzysztof was an amazing tour guide who made sure everything was taken care of.
09/24/2023
I have been traveled with G group for so many times over the years. The first 6 days of the itinerary was very interesting, and it is standard out from the other tour groups. In the Iceland tour, we had very good experiences with the CEO, Krzysztof Zalewski, as well as the wonderful Iceland landscape.

Overally, this specific trip, had some amazing stops, one of the two CEO was amazing, but the design of the trip was lacking. The trip was sold a single trip, when in reality it's really two trips in one. Due to this combination, the CEO support was lacking for a day. The lull in the CEO caused a major swing of momentum between the two trips. If the trip was planned as one trip, it would have been a 10/10. Additionally, the second part of the trip had no new members so there was no reason to divide it. Several people wanted to extend to the full 9 days but were told it was full, even though we had no new people and lost 3. The second guide wasn't even aware 2 people weren't coming due to injury/illness. That's a failure of communication.

It depends on what they are looking for in a trip. It is fast paced moving

A nine day tour ,was actually a seven day tour. This is totally unacceptable. one of the day excursion for scuba diving ,so the people didn't do the scuba diving we?re left to be alone. To do nothing! I paid for nine day excursion I felt I feel like I'm being cheated of my money. They should?ve been offered something else and a tour guide with us this day. If other people didn't want to do scuba diving and not everyone does scuba diving. ?? And it just really sucked to change our tour guide, last 2 days who we started off with it was completely such a mixup of a tour that I ever been on.
09/24/2023
we have travelled with G many times and always have fond memories of our experiences.
09/24/2023
I have been on 2 trips with G so far and never on a group trip before G. Both trips have been amazing.
