Starting in San Jose you’ll meet your new travel buddies before heading to experience life of locals in the rural village of Coope San Juan. Explore the volcanic hot springs in La Fortuna, and get up close and personal to wildlife on a night safari in Monteverde. Witness breathtaking views ziplining through the canopy of the cloud forest, and unwind in a sunset yoga class in Santa Teresa. An incredible experience of what Costa Rica has to offer!

Day 1: Arrival Day
Day 2: Bike Ride & Local Cooking
We're straight into Costa Rica's rich culture today, we're heading to Coop San Juan, a rural Costa Rican village off the beaten path where we will experience life just as the locals do. A quick scenic drive through the country (3 and a half hours) we make it to our picturesque village where we check into our homestays. If you want to get to know the real Costa Rica. This is it. Get to know the families who so kindly let us stay, before they show us a cooking demonstration. Costa Rican food is out of this world. So try to learn a thing or two. Before the sun goes down we head out to explore the area - keeping an eye out for wildlife and getting a true feel for the Costa Rican countryside. Play some games with the local community, watch the sun go down as we gather around the bonfire. Has this been an epic first full day? You better believe it. But hey, start as you mean to go on right?
Day 3: Hot Springs & Waterfalls
Day 4: Free Day
Today is a full day dedicated to exploring La Fortuna and there certainly isn't a shortage of options. Your travel ninja (that's your super cool, unbelievably suave, knowledgeable genius of a tour guide by the way) will be taking those looking for a more chilled day down to the local swimming hole called El Salto, and for those who are craving some adrenaline can choose to spend the day as they please. Whether your activity of choice is canyoneering, whitewater rafting, volcano hikes, ATVing, ziplining, rappelling, or something else, La Fortuna will not disappoint. Will excitement be running through your very veins.
Day 5: Travel to Monteverde and Night Safari
Today is just as much about the journey as it is the destination. We pack up and begin one of the most scenic journeys of our trip to Monteverde. This route takes us high through the jungle mountains where we cross a scenic lake with panoramic views of the Arenal Volcano. After we make it Monteverde we have time to check in and get settled before heading out for a night safari later in the evening. The diversity of wildlife in Costa Rica is unmatched, and tonight we are going to get a first hand look at the nocturnal nightlife. Sloths, armadillos, vipers, colorful tree frogs and exotic birds are a few of the animals you will likely be lucky enough to come across on the night safari. Just imagine yourself in a David Atteborough documentary, get your TruFam member to film and narrate the whole thing.
Day 6: Ziplining
When people mention Costa Rica, ziplining through a cloud forest is likely one of the first images that comes to mind. In the 1970's, scientists used ziplines to explore the country's rich canopy without disturbing the environment, and from there the idea of using ziplines for recreation was born. If we could travel everywhere by zipline, trust us, we would. As the birthplace of the zipline and hands down one of the most EPIC possible locations to try the activity, it's a no-brainer that we include a day of ziplining in the earth's most famous cloud forest. Not to mention, these are some of the longest and most thrilling ziplines out there, so grab the go pro. It's a hell of a day!
Day 7: Santa Teresa
We've covered the culture, we've experienced nature, and now we've got our fill of adventure so there's only one thing left - the beach! Costa Rica is world-renowned for its beautiful coastline and world-class surfing, so today we head to our favorite beach town in the country. SURF'S UP BABY! We love Santa Teresa because it's got the exact vibe we look for when visiting beach towns on our Tru tours. Beautiful, not too touristy, plenty of fun activities in the area and a fun, young vibe. Today is just a travel day but when we get settled in, we'll head over to the beach for cocktails and to enjoy our first sunset over the Pacific.
Day 8: Beach Day & Yoga Class
Today we chill at the beach, it's been a crazy few days and we're all about that Pura Vida lifestyle. Our accommodation is just a short walk from the beach, so spend the day relaxing at the beach or if you're feeling super energised you can head off on one of the many activities Santa Teresa has to offer. If you are looking to do a bit of surfing while on the trip, today is the perfect chance as there are plenty of great surf schools along the beach. In the afternoon we have a sunset yoga class where you can unwind and get a bit of zen in before another day of adventure tomorrow.
Day 9: Waterfalls & Cabuya Island
Not far from Santa Teresa is a lesser known Costa Rica highlight - the Bohemian beach town of Montezuma. We'll grab transport over to Montezuma where we will grab lunch by the beach before going to see one of Costa Rica's iconic jungle waterfalls (and hopefully catch a glimpse of some howler monkeys and other wildlife!). After the waterfall we go and explore Montezuma town, a super colorful and chill beach town, filled with local artisans and home to an incredible beach that is not to be missed. Tonight is the last night of our trip, so we head back to Santa Teresa to prepare for a farewell dinner and one last WILD night out with the group.
Day 10: Chilled Checkout
All good things must come to an end, we're not crying...you are. We're in one of the best spots in Costa Rica, so hang around town, check out Santa Teresa. Whatever you do, don't forget us. This trip in Costa Rica was honestly such an amazing trip!! There was such a variety of activities and things you normally wouldn't get to experience (like the homestay with a local family). We got to experience all different environments from jungles to hot springs and ending in a beach paradise! Luis was THE best guide with amazing vibes and every food item he recommended was delicious and very south American/Costa Rican cuisine

This tour had the best of everything - stunning landscapes and wildlife, local community impact, adrenaline fuelled adventures and beautiful beaches and snorkelling. Our tour guide Luis did an incredible job of always bringing positive energy, making the group feel like a family and always having excellent food and drink recommendations and sorting restaurant and bar bookings for us. I honestly had the best trip and would recommend to anyone!!

This trip was amazing! I did things I never thought I would do and really stepped out of my comfort zone! I made friends for life and it was such an amazing adventure and healing journey for me. I will cherish this trip forever.

Most amazing trip ever I never expected this trip to be so amazing, seeing the country from a point of view I never could’ve done by myself. Lau’s such an amazing guide but also an amazing person. She learned us so much things about Costa Rica and never failed to amaze us! Taking care of the group while still making a lot of fun. She’s a great guide who will teach you how to PURA VIDA!

A very active tour with lots of activities included but also many optional extras to choose from. A jam-packed and varied experience, shared with like-minded people and a super friendly, knowledgeable tour guide! Be prepared to spend extra money on meals out, tipping and extra activities, which adds to the overall cost of the trip

I thoroughly enjoyed my recent vacation The amazing accommodations, delectable cuisine, seamless transportation, would not have been achievable without the guidance of our exceptional tour guide, Lau. Lau was an incredible tour leader, her enthusiasm, knowledge, commitment and obviously love of the country made it such a great experience! I honestly could not have asked for a better leader, she went above and beyond to make sure all requests/needs were catered for and that we got the best possible experience of Costa Rica and everything the amazing country had to offer! She was always willing and keen to help with anything we needed and made sure we all knew everything we needed to about the day and plans, and more! There was so much to do and offered to us throughout the 10 days - it was amazing! Thank you for a brilliant 10 days!!

This was a great trip. Lau is an amazing tour guide. She has so much knowledge of Costa Rica and was able to answer any questions that we had. She is such a friendly and knowledgeable person and she made the trip so much more enjoyable. We were able to relax and not think about anything whilst we were with her, and we knew that she was taking care of everything. I’ve never done a tour before, but from this experience and with a guide like Lau, I know that I will do one again.

Lau was an amazing guide! She is always so full of enthusiasm to show us her country nobody else would be! She is alway kind to everyone and there is no problem that she couldn’t solve! Overall the 10 day Costa Rica Adventure is a good way to get to know the country. The stops are very well chosen so that you will get a good impression about the diversity of Costa Rica.

If you ever doubt about doing a group travel, please please please go on a trip with TruTravels and especially Lau!!! She was amazing person with such a kind heart. She did everything she could to make everyone feel at home and the vibe in our tourgroup was so amazing because of it! She is truly a superwoman who can do everything and she made the trip go very smoothly. I would 11/10 recommend going somewhere with her!

I really enjoyed Costa Rica and the locations this tour visited. The group aspect was great to meet people and also be safer when exploring. I’d recommend a tour with more activities included, once you add the cost of these in, this tour ends up being more costly than others. Hotels varied in quality with the last 3 days being a 6 sharer, 1 hot shower in 10 days.

Laura was a good tour leader. She always put recommendations in the chat when we arrived at a new place. And also suggested different activities we could do. Favourite experience was probably the zip lining in monteverde, definitely very fun and memorable.

Meals are not all included like stated, there were very few times they actually covered the meals. Also when I read the description I get the impression that I will have my own room, but that is not the case, it is shared rooms. I’d probably visit Costa Rica again but not with Trutravels.

Manu is an amazing guide and I felt very connected to the community. This was my first solo trip and I felt very safe and was able to make connections with a lot of people! All the activities were awesome and I had a great time.

Laura was amazing, she made the trip and I don’t think it would have been the same without her. Her ability to connect with all of us and her personality. She was so funny, kind and helpful. I feel like she cared about all of us and this was more than a job for her. If I do any more trips I want her as my guide every time.

Lau really made the trip in Costa Rica! Her extensive knowledge on Costa Rica coupled with her open and enthusiastic personality really made me feel at ease. She always provided helpful tips and was always open on answering any questions I had. Because of Lau, I’ll be open to doing more tours like this. Having a guide that is so welcoming and happy really helped keep the mood boosted on those long days!
