Itinerary
Day 1: Puerto Maldonado/Tambopata
After a brief stop in town to store large luggage, drive to the pier and travel by covered motorized boat to the jungle lodge.
En route, spot bird species typical of the local river and forest edge. The Tambopata Rainforest area holds the world record for the most bird sightings in one area.
Local community members make up the majority of lodge staff, including multilingual naturalist guides. Take the opportunity to learn about the area's rich flora and fauna and locals' extensive use of medicinal plants and other forest plant resources through traditional techniques for building, fishing, and hunting.
Enjoy a welcome drink and orientation. Before dinner, head out for a night walk around the lodge grounds.
Day 2: Tambopata
Head out early to catch the jungle at its wildest (and coolest). Walk slowly through the forest searching for wildlife before heading out on an oxbow lake by canoe.
Search for anaconda, the elusive giant river otter or black caiman. Even if you don't spot these shy creatures, there's plenty of other birds, interesting plants. and other animals about.
Day 3: Tambopata
Day 4: Tambopata/Puerto Maldonado
Start early for the canoe trip back to Puerto Maldonado. Search for early morning wildlife. Howler monkeys are frequently heard, as they stake out their territories.
Arrive back to the port and journey by van to the lodge office to collect luggage before heading to the airport.

Our guide was so cool and funny. He knows a lot and wants others to learn. He was great and that made the entire experience more worth it.

Great environment, great guide but didn't appreciate bring lumped in with other groups without any prior notice that would be the case. Especially departure day when I was summoned by the other groups guide a full hour before my scheduled departure, as described on the departure voucher.

Everything about this adventure worked like clockwork. Our guide, Hugo, was brilliant! Going well beyond what was expected or required to see that our every need was met. Facilities were amazing!

Everything about the Tambamboto Lodge was as expected and a really good experience. the only negatives, we had booked this package on the back of another and the staff were completely unaware of this. It was handled well but caused a needless complication as we had flagged the possible confusion when booking as we would not be arriving at the airport we would already be there. The other issue was the heightened security and current threat to tourists in Puerto Maldanado, the measures in place were fine but we were not told of any risk until we were already on the bus. I do not think this is acceptable as it gives the traveller no choice, the decision is already made that they will be travelling,

Great experience at the Tambopata EcoLodge and great guide (Elvis). But not so good experience with the planning of the Lares Trek and the guide, whom were bad at understanding English. So in all we end on this score.
