How long does it take to fall in love? In a country where history spills from world-class museums and tiny osterias serve up life-changing pasta recipes, eight days might just be enough (but if you have more time, why not extend your adventure?). On this trip, you’ll begin winding your way through the canals of Venice, hiking through the scenic Cinque Terre, soaking up beauty and history of Florence and finishing up in the piazzas of Rome. With plenty of free time for independent exploration and the freedom to discover Italy's history and culture at your own pace, there's no better way to see this popular pocket of Europe.
Highlights
- Explore rocky coastal pathways and pastel-coloured villages with a Cinque Terre day pass, which allows you to hike at your own pace and use the coast's public transport.
- Get lost in the floating city of Venice and wander the city's maze of alleyways, canals and lagoon islands, and choose whether to opt in for an optional gondola ride.
- Discover the landmarks of Rome with your handy local leader and wander around the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.
- Spend two days in Florence – a city known for its beauty and rustic Tuscan cuisine – and choose to discover the city’s culinary traditions on optional food excursions.
- Make travel a breeze with a European trip that includes train travel. Enjoy extra time to sit back, relax, play games with your fellow travellers or watch the changing scenery roll by.

This was my first time in Italy, and I am surprised by how much we explored in eight days or so. The trip offered a healthy balance of leader-led orientation walks and independent time to visit museums and participate in activities. For those traveling during the summertime, I recommend booking your optional activities and museum visits in advance; otherwise, you will have to wait in line.

This trip was awesome. The accommodation was very good despite being one of the cheaper trips. Our tour leader Federico was excellent and very accommodating to the group’s needs. My only recommendation is for the Rome accommodation to be closer to the city as we were very far and was hard to travel using the public transport system over there. Perhaps not so many train journeys too given that the so many people use the trains and can be a bit overwhelming but otherwise great trip!!!

This tour was phenomenal. Our leader, Anna, was so much fun and incredibly knowledgeable. The itinerary was brilliant and the accommodation was excellent. We loved this tour and it truly was the highlight of Italy.

This was the final leg of a long tour for me and it was the most fun. The group was very diverse and got along very well from the start. Anna was a great tour leader, making sure we all got what we wanted out of the trip. I probably wouldn’t have thought to go to cinque terre myself but it was a great day. Drinking wine while watching the sunset over Florence was a highlight. My only suggestion would be to include a trip to Pisa on the way to La Spezia, the train already goes past it and it means the day isn’t completely lost to travel. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

This was a great way of seeing so many amazing parts of Italy in such a short time. Our tour leader Anna really made us feel like locals. Watching the sunset from Piazzale Michaelangelo in Florence while eating a delicious focaccia sandwich with a glass of red wine will was an absolute highlight for me. Something I never would have done without Anna’s recommendation. I would definitely recommend packing as little as possible. I only had a backpack and it was perfect. People with wheeled suitcases really struggled on the cobbled streets and trying to find places to store them on the packed trains and buses was very stressful for them. Especially for people who brought very large luggage. It also holds up the rest of the group while people try to manage their excessive luggage. This is not a trip for large amounts of luggage.

This trip was a great way to visit three of the major cities in Italy, as well as the beautiful Cinque Terre. Our group leader, Anna, was awesome - so friendly and helpful.

A great taster of Italy, with enough time in each city to see the sights without feeling too rushed, despite the short trip!

Sebastian was our tour guide his knowledge on the history of all the cities in Italy we visited was mind blowing and that linked with the knowledge of the local food and wine choices were truly incredible and inspiring!!! I’m not sure if my first European trip would have been as epic without Sebastian and the people who were in our group. Thank yo

Venice to Rome is a fantastic snapshot of this part of Northern Italy, we loved the trip and the only fault is that it's too short. Our group leader Anna was a gem and made this a very memorable experience.

Had a fantastic time with the group. The trip and the highlights were amazing. We definitely did things I never would have done or known of travelling on my own. Easy fun and no pressure.

The 8 day Intrepid Tour of Italy was exactly what we wanted. Excellent guide, good hotels , and enough time in each city. One needs to book certain options in advance if they want to do extra things. The travel in a small group made us feel safe and allowed us to really explore the local areas . Loved every minute of it.

My son and I did the basic tour from Venice to Rome and it was fantastic ?? if you are lucky enough to get Walter as your tour leader. You have hit the jackpot. It was a great tour for us as we were able to see and do what we wanted with the guidance and local knowledge from a great tour leader. We also had a great group of people to travel with exchanging info/tips on tours, meals and drinks ?? definitely recommend
