Travel from Kenya to Cape Town through some of Africa’s most incredible sights on this jaw-dropping 48-day overland journey. Explore Kenya’s bustling capital, keep your eyes open for the Big Five in the vast savannas of the Serengeti, hike through lush mountain terrain and traverse sprawling desert plains in Namibia. Sample unique flavours, meet warm and welcoming local communities, relax beachside in Zanzibar, and prepare for an unforgettable southbound adventure through some of Africa's best.
Highlights
- Glide through the lily-filled waterways of the Okavango Delta on a mokoro (a small dugout canoe) and escape civilisation with an overnight stay at your island camp.
- Be mesmerised by the staggering force and beauty of Victoria Falls, and experience firsthand why it’s known as the ‘smoke that thunders’ – a natural wonder that must be seen to be believed.
- Chill out on the northern beaches of Zanzibar, enjoying the white sands and the sparkling blue of the Indian Ocean, and consider learning about the island's spice trade on a guided visit to the local plantations.
- Listen to the songs and stories of Namibia’s San people, the oldest inhabitants of southern Africa, and gain an insight into their traditional customs and beliefs.
- Discover the magic of South Luangwa National Park on a dawn and afternoon 4WD safari game drive. This park is a highly concentrated arena of noble African beasts and exotic wildflowers.

To travel camping with a diverse group of people I thought would be challenging. (Having never camped before!). Not at all! The trip through so many countries - mostly desert - was dusty and challenging over rough terrain, but the reasons for doing so made it SO worthwhile! I could never have organised a trip that covered so many exciting opportunities to view animals in their natural habitat - meet indigenous peoples telling us of their struggles and lives and sharing with us their heritage and culture. The mixing of nationalities and ages of the travellers was very varied, but all of it would not have been so good without the pure professionalise of the leader and his crew. Each day they made sure we were fed and watered … really well. Driven safely and competently over sometimes very challenging terrain! All this backed up by a leader who ensured we were well Informed, had answers to our (hundreds!) of questions and professionally guided us through borders, check points, on and off boats. All the time making sure we laughed and enjoyed the trip! Thanks for the journey!

The Kenya to Cape Town trip is simply sensational! Camping and trucking with Intrepid is a safe and exciting way to experience the best of east and southern Africa. The reward for selecting this trip is the pleasure of seeing endless wildlife and stunning scenery. Each location provides a distinctive experience - it really is a journey of a lifetime! I recommend going southbound, since the adventure becomes easier and the groups are usually smaller.

Coming from Nairobi to Cape Town was a trip of a lifetime! Don’t hesitate just book! It will honestly change your life for the better. This trip convinced me that overlanding is really the best and only way to see Africa! The amount of scenery, games drives and culture that you are exposed to really helps to expand your knowledge of Africa and it’s amazing people. Victor, Nicko and Sam were an awesome crew! Camp grounds exceeded expectations and from a safety stand point as a single female I always felt comfortable and at home! The best trip!
