Experience Overview
Gurgling hot springs, cascading waterfalls, extinct (and live) volcanoes and Europe’s biggest glacier – this is Iceland! On a six-day adventure, you’ll discover the raw natural beauty of this Nordic wonderland, getting up close to epic glacial sheaths, feeling the icy spray of the Gullfoss Waterfall and becoming acquainted with the culture and cuisine of an Arctic island outpost unlike any other. Spend the days hiking, waterfall chasing and soaking in the gorgeous landscapes, and spend the nights searching for the Northern Lights.
Highlights
- Follow the scenic Golden Circle, visiting geothermal springs, colourful geysers and the mighty waterfall of Gullfoss.
- Drive along the island’s spectacular South Shore, past the Reynisdrangar Rocks and volcanic black sand beaches.
- Head to Skaftafell National Park and get adventurous with a hike to Vatnajokull – Europe's largest glacier!
- Try to spot the Aurora Borealis – the best lightshow on Earth! Stay up late to see the northern sky dance with green light (subject to weather conditions and activity), with a local leader by your side to help you get the best opportunities.
- Wander around the arts and dining scene of Reykjavik – you'll walk around the city's old harbour and the famous Hallgrimskirkja church of Iceland's capital with your leader. Then, maybe check out the music scene or hang out at the pub.

Highly recommend this trip - great way to see the countryside of Iceland and not be based only in Reykjavik. Interesting to stay in places off the beaten track, see the countryside and have the knowledge of a local guide. Intrepid were helpful from start to finish and our local guide was excellent. Highly recommend!

Amazing discovery of this natural wonders of Iceland. The glacier lagoon was my favourite. I didn't manage to see the Northern Lights but there us so much more to go to Iceland for. Our guide Jura was fantastic, she shared her vast knowledge, kept us entertained with countless icelandic tales and adapted the itinerary according to the changeable weather. Would highly recommend this tour.

An Intrepid trip to Iceland is a trip of a lifetime. Everything is well thought out to provide the ultimate experience to each traveller. The groups are not crowded and are the right size to keep the experience intimate and rewarding! Our tour leader Kristjan is a native Icelander with hundreds of years of family history and history of old and modern culture! His stories are compelling, knowledgeable, skilled with facts and humor to add a valuable charm that makes this tour so rewarding! I loved it and can't wait to return!

My partner and I throughly enjoyed the Northern Lights Escape tour, and found it to be the perfect mix of day activity’s while still positioning us perfectly to have the best chance at seeing the lights at night. Would recommend the tour for anyone who wants to see the natural beauty of Iceland with an informative guide who goes the extra mile to make your experience special.

The March Northern Lights Tour did not disappoint. From seeing the Northern Lights on the first night out, to beautiful ice rocks at Diamond Beach, the black sand of Black Sand Beach, stunning waterfalls, hiking an ice cave, and so much more, this was a wonderful tour of the Southern area of Iceland. I would highly recommend using Intrepid for tours. The small group number made it much more enjoyable. I only wish Stefan could be the tour guide on all your tours. He was knowledgeable, organized, accessible and just plain fun to hang out with.

Iceland was incredible and the trip was made so much better due to our passionate local guide Jura. Accommodations were decent quality and we had plenty of freedom to choose what to do. I highly recommend mountain gear as it gets really cold in winter, especially when you visit the glaciers (think multiple layers). Hot water and warm beds in all locations. Tea/Coffee making facilities as well. Breakfast was quite basic. Organisation was good though after the booking, it was quite a blanket but once I reached the joining point everything was as advertised.

The spectacular landscapes and natural features of Iceland were truly magical to see and experience. Our leader, Gisli, was extremely knowledgeable and shared so much of Iceland's history, geology and mythology with us throughout the trip. The guesthouse accommodation provided immersive and authentic stays in the countryside which we wouldn't have found otherwise. I couldn't recommend this trip enough!

This dynamic trip was led by Larus who was a caring and engaged leader. He kept our group entertained with stories from the sagas and anecdotes about the historical, politic, geological and cultural aspects of his beloved Iceland. I’d go back to Iceland in a flash as it is an interesting and beautiful country with great food.
